Towards a Complete Exploitation of Brewers’ Spent Grain from a Circular Economy Perspective

In the present work, brewers’ spent grain (BSG), which represents major by-product of brewing industry, was recovered from a regional brewery and fractionated in order to obtain complete valorization. particular, whole process divided two main parts. A first pretreatment with hot water an autoclave allowed separation solution containing soluble proteins sugars, accounted for 25% total starting biomass. This step preparation medium that successfully employed as valuable growing different microbial fermentations, leading fungal biomass well triglycerides high content linear or branched fatty acids, depending on microorganism used. The solid water-insoluble residue then submitted lignocellulose deep eutectic solvent-mediated fractionation, recovery important fractions: BSG cellulose lignin. latter product tested potential precursor development cement reducers encouraging results. combination treatments waste appeared be promising sustainable strategy full exploitation circular economy perspective.
